CCHE BC-TMH Newsletter
Hello class,
The internet is a great place if you know what you are looking for and where to find it. Clinical research is the cornerstone of mental healthcare practice, but it is often difficult to find research that supports the effort, in terms of time and money, to accomplish. Earning a BC-TMH is one of those efforts. To a casual observer, one might say it is always a good thing to acquire another Borad Certification. Beyond it looking good on a credential list, does the education have a measurable effect on your practice? Hopefully the clinical research project summarized below will answer that question.
“The Self-Efficacy of Counselors Providing Telemental Health Services During the COVID-19 Pandemic”
Problem Statement
“Is a lack of formal training or continuing education about TMH is a significant contributing factor to the struggles that professional counselors face in providing TMH services, as this may lead to poor self-efficacy?”
The study looks at Counsellor Self Efficiency (CSE) scoring and how it is affected by experience, education, and training (particularly BC-TMH credentialling).
Factors that affect CSE: a counselor’s belief and appraisal of their ability to effectively counsel clients in the present and future.
Summarized Conclusions:
- CSE has a significant impact on counselor competence, burnout, resilience, and treatment outcomes.
- Greater than 8 hours of TMH training and education correlated with the highest CSE scores.
- As the number of hours providing TMH services increased, so did the level of CSE.
- 90% of counsellors have less than 4 years TMH experience.
- Greater than 10 years experience in counselling correlated with the highest CSE scores.
Thanks for joining the class and working to earn your BC-TMH. If you have friends or colleagues feel free to share the newsletter link and the BC-TMH Training Program link as well.
Take Care all,
