In an ideal world, the negotiation creates value for both parties, but the BATNA is clearly variable in certain situations, especially those when the negotiation table is tipped in-favor of the other party. Specifically, we have a faculty position that requires a highly specialized provider to fill the role and the market for this type of…[Read more]

I like that idea of doing the brainwriting prior to the meeting; I agree that so many times the ideas come after the meeting is done & people have had time to “digest” a little bit. Although I’ve never tried these formats, its sounds interesting & something I may try out!

Joe, you’ve hit the main problems that plague my practice as well (family medicine at a community health center/FQHC). The provider burnout on clerical tasks is one of the biggest ones that keeps me up at night. Metrics that I’d like to be able to measure to characterize the problem:
-Total time spent by providers “logged in” to the…[Read more]

I have a solo practice in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics. Mentoring has always been a regular activity in my office. For years, until the local teaching hospital set up their own Med-Peds outpatient program, my office was set up as one of the outpatient clinical rotations for Med-Peds residents. One of the residents who rotated through my of…[Read more]

I think we have all attended meetings run poorly and some run well. I agree that often the leader or facilitator has the responsibility and the ability to control much of that. For the bad meeting side, we have a quarterly meeting with a small group where a few members often hijack the discussion. The unnecessarily long and unproductive rants…[Read more]

I’m afraid this looks like my financial statement which has always been available to me but I never really understood the importance of the various components. I suspect this is a procedural practice where the allowables can be really high with one payer and not so much with another. When you do not have a dedicated billing outfit, the easiest way…[Read more]

Hi Karin. Which year did you graduate from Rush? I was class of 2007. It’s changed a lot since I graduated. Was just there for our 10 year reunion. Our practice covers GBMC, I’m sure you’ve interacted with some of my colleagues from Advanced Radiology.

Hi , I am Omar Zalatimo. I live and work in Baltimore. I completed my medical school and training at Penn State Hershey in neurosurgery. As it was stated in the intro video, business skills are not taught in our education, though they are demanded from our practices. I was excited to see that MedChi had this program.

It’s interesting to me that this came from the administration down to the physicians to expand without having some planning for it. I have certainly seen it the other way, with physicians trying to add more and more. Sometimes this is due to an assumption that all endeavors are profitable. Other times, it seems that some of the drive for this is…[Read more]

Another thought to piggyback off of that, is that the situation continues to get more complex as the ‘hospital employed’ model grows. The physician’s value is more than just salary and wRVU production. There is the other added benefits to the facility that also provide value to the hospital. For procedural specialties, it is the facility fees, etc…[Read more]

At my organization, I can get, but have to ask for, the statements for my division. To my knowledge, they do not do individual statements for each physician. Additionally, this information is not available monthly. Most of the decision making is made by administrators, not the physicians, as far as I can tell.
As far as the statement for analysis…[Read more]
