I’ve learned a lot over the past year of hiring 9 new providers at our organization-and seeing some of them leave voluntarily or not within the same year. We’ve used a mix of the formal & informal interview process, with 1/2 the day of formal interview with our administrative team and 1/2 the day with the providers in the clinic the new doc will…[Read more]

I like that idea of doing the brainwriting prior to the meeting; I agree that so many times the ideas come after the meeting is done & people have had time to “digest” a little bit. Although I’ve never tried these formats, its sounds interesting & something I may try out!

I’ll admit, the first time I saw my organizations financial statements & listened to the finance presentation to our board about a year ago, I felt like I was listening to the teacher in Charlie Brown (“whaaa, whaaaa, whaa”). The information was overwhelming, seeing the numbers on paper was overwhelming, and not fully understanding it was…[Read more]

An example out of the healthcare realm I’m thinking of is my kids soccer league. The president of the league followed the modern Quality Leadership style, but didn’t set clear expectations of his board and ended up doing most of the work himself. As a member, you could tell he was trying to empower others in the board and league, but possibly…[Read more]
