Wish I had taken this course when wife was in ID fellowship and were job hunting. Would have helped for sure. (That said I think we did okay)

During her first year of fellowship, we did two practice job interview in Ocala, Florida (central Florida) while on vacation. Our goal was to get something part time. The area is need of doctors in general and so this is an advantage. Practice A inspite of looking at a senior partner looking to cut back  were not very flexible with salary, schedule, sharing of revenue generated. This was in part due to them wanting someone full time and they had hired someone who was joining them soon. Practice B offered good flexibility, open book, reasonable base, potential for profit sharing, no non compete, no damage clause  and was willing to come to agreement on tail coverage if we left. During his open book it did reveal that his new infusion center was not profitable. He was open about telling us that between drug reimbursement, poor patient flow through the infusion center, not enough advertising was the cause for this. The local hospital did not have the capacity to handle this. Based on course presentation this practice site became my wife’s BATNA. This offer for the moment still stands.

We ended up looking at two practices in the Philadelphia Tristate area. Practice A was offered a nice base, but nothing beyond that. Practice B had just had a partner and his wife(APRN who did outpatient ID) retire and were desperate to fill. While the base was lower than practice A, my wife was able to get profit sharing as an employee, partnership in two years( no buy in), removal of damage and non compete clause, part time schedule included in contract, given she would get benefits through me, we used that to come to an agreement about tail coverage if she left.
