Something that we are trying to do in the hospital and in our GI practice is to share electronic documentation best practices and EMR adaptation efficiencies with each other. We are trying this through mentoring and through one to many periodic idea sharing.
It is also becoming increasingly important for physicians and clinical caregivers to…[Read more]

Volume of patients in my private practice is a “keep me up at night” problem. The usual ebb and flow from month to month is expected but to have consistency is the key. We have weekly provider meetings to discuss work flow, marketing, etc. We have utilized patient surveys in our practice recently (both for my MOC and a payor quality i…[Read more]

Solo practice. Look at receipts and billings monthly. Charges mean nothing, allowables do. Very little need for collections agency.

I have found that most meetings in hospitals with a size of over 10 rarely accomplish new rather than serving for announcing a decision already made , even if the decision having been made may not be formally known to be made. Exceptions are if there are very sharp objections by part of group.

Yes at the end of the year; I have the opportunity to review the financial statements with our accountant and a few of the other doctors in our group.
I always felt leaving the meeting that most of the discussion was over my head. It reminded me of being a child overhearing an adult conversation and not understanding what the discussion was…[Read more]

i look at them in our practice. can’t say I completey understand. Always a large “write off”. Is this about 60% collection efficient?

Enjoying learning about financial statements- I look at these all the time (my practice, my wife’s practice) and I am excited I will have the knowledge to now better understand them soon….

The financial statement in the Financial Communication discussion board may be very similar to what you see in most practices. Can you comment on the collections efficiency of that practice. It is a sad thing to see the benefits of your hard work lost.
-
looks like they collected only 3 out of every 4 dollars of potential patient revenue.
-
How do you come to this conclusion looking at this statement?

I think Theory X is a easy fall back, the lazy way out and makes leaders feel in control- even if the ship is sinking. Theory Y requires a good bit of effort on the part of leadership- having a clear mission, being transparent and empowering your team. Not just lip service but actually valuing the opinions/implementing the ideas of those who k…[Read more]

My fellowship was Theory X. It worked for the director. In hindsight, it discouraged questions (lack of acceptance to new technique etc.) and did little to foster self confidence in the fellow. Some fellow sought additional training as they left feeling unprepared.
