I thought the course was well done and should be used to educate and screen by just about everyone. Sleep, good sleep is so essential to having energy and a good life that is enjoyable. If you have sleep apnea, it is not your fault and you can do something about that that will greatly improve your quality of life.

An example out of the healthcare realm I’m thinking of is my kids soccer league.  The president of the league followed the modern Quality Leadership style, but didn’t set clear expectations of his board and ended up doing most of the work himself. As a member, you could tell he was trying to empower others in the board and league, but possibly…[Read more]

I am not sure discussions of data during rounds is very efficient as the purpose of rounds is to discuss the patients and teach.

There being nobody to take notes, develop minutes, etc.  the discussion will get lost.

It is important to keep focused on the task at hand, rounds are for one thing, data discussions need a different forum.

    Just my 2 cents

I have been in both the military and in private practice and Financial Statements are clearly a problem.

What I have learned is cynical. Since the days of the crusades, the “administrators” have manipulated the situation to where it has become impossible to address as now we have legislators who keep changing the rules.

    Medicine has become so…[Read more]

I think it important to put both X and Y into their historical perspective. Mr Ford lived in a time when elementary education was not very common which led to many of the practices of the time. But it also led to the union violence that reacted to the X way of doing things. Y arose when education was more common and helped greatly.

    However, life…[Read more]

This section has very most helpful to me.  I am currently negotiating a new contract as an employed physician at my institution.  I keep a binder folder (which my assistant jokingly refers to as my “bible” and I wrote down several of the points during our discussion.  It came in very handy during the final negotiations and there were some figure…[Read more]

This information would have been helpful for past contract negotiations. It may be difficult to negotiate higher salaries with organizations which base salaries on the mean market value for the region.

The mentoring information will be extremely helpful when our next colleague joins the practice. Although the on boarding has been discussed…[Read more]

How does one incorporate new partners in a practice to avoid variation? Is there an acceptable percentage of incorporating their practice pattern into the group practice time pattern or should they have to adopt to the overwhelming majority of the group practice pattern? Incorporating too much from the new partner will certainly add to variation…[Read more]

I think I must be doing something right. Although I at first thought my more

authoritarian, I think it is probably more of a hybrid of authoritarian and Theory Y.

I do give my employees a lot of say and input into things.  I do seem to be

good at employee retention and have little turnover etc.  I do solicit input etc and
