I have learned a lot about running meetings, and I’m grateful for this course. I am presently a solo practitioner in private practice. I am blessed with wonderful staff, and I have had very low turnovers. Even though I did not have formal training/teaching, I have been doing some of what I’ve read so far. I empower my staff, and they work hard to improve our settings everyday. They have a voice, and feel free to suggest and implement changes. I have allowed a change that I knew will not work in order to allow hands on learning by a staff member in the past. One of my drawbacks is that I empower staff to also improve themselves. The few employees that has left us resigned after getting higher degrees of some sort. For instance, I had an employee who came to us with a high school diploma; I encouraged, and supported her to get a degree in health administration. After graduation, she refused to leave, worked with us for another 2 yrs, even though I was unable to increase her pay commensurate with her degree; she eventually got a position with University of Maryland, doing the same thing, but for 4 doctors, and with better pay with other perks.
